Cutting your time down in the editing room is important, it gives you more time to look at cat memes, watch Game of Thrones analysis videos, and mindlessly scroll social media. Kidding (mostly). Here are 5 simple Final Cut Pro shortcuts that'll help you edit way faster.
1. Command 6 and Command 7
Command 6 brings up your color board and color correction tools, and Command 7 brings up your scopes. If the only "scopes" you know are from Fortnite or Call of Duty, go watch my video on video scopes, they're essential for grading.
2. B and Command B
B is your blade tool, think B for blade, and a blade cuts. Press B to bring the cutting tool into your hand so you can cut anywhere, or press Command B to make an immediate cut right where your playhead is without switching tools.
3. I, O, then W / E / Q
This combo is gold for pulling clips from your library into the timeline. Set your in point with I and your out point with O, then drop the clip in with W (insert), E (append), or Q (connect), depending on how you want it added.
4. Command Shift V
Copy all the effects and adjustments on a clip with Command C, then Command Shift V to paste attributes onto another clip and pick exactly what carries over. Huge time-saver when you've got a look dialed in and want it on a bunch of clips.
5. Comma and period
Select the end (or start) of a clip and press comma to cut a frame or period to add a frame. Perfect for those tiny, precise adjustments that make your edit feel tight.
