Every time a free plugins video goes up, the same question comes up: are these actually good or just free? These are the ones that have earned their spot in a real working toolkit: not just technically free, but genuinely useful.
01FCB's Plugin Installer (not actually a plugin, better)
Before downloading anything else, get FCB's Plugin Installer by Dylan Bates. It makes installing every Final Cut Pro plugin a drag-and-drop process instead of a folder archaeology expedition. But the bonus feature is the real reason it's first: a built-in button that cleans your FCP preferences while preserving your custom settings. If you ever experience random crashes, playback issues, or unexpected FCP behaviour, cleaning preferences is the standard fix, and this makes it a one-click process.
02Corentin Aboulin titles
These are free animated titles with a colorful cinematic style. They're polished enough to use in client work and distinctive enough to add character to personal content. Drag-and-drop application, customisable text and colour.
03Adjustment+ by Dylan Bates
An improvement on FCP's default adjustment layer. Adds controls that the stock version doesn't have, making it more flexible for grading and effects work. Free on the FCP Booster website.
04Before and After Free by LenoFX
Creates a before/after split-screen comparison with a single drag and drop. Invaluable for color grading tutorials and any content showing a transformation. Saves building the split-screen manually every time.
05Tap5a by Tapio Haaja
An animation plugin that lets you animate in and out any element (titles, pop-ups, GIFs, images) with 18 animation options and motion blur control. Apply it to anything, choose in and out style, adjust timing. One of the most-used free plugins for content creators because pop-up animations are everywhere in modern editing.
06Corentin Aboulin transitions
Colorful cinematic transitions with a distinctive aesthetic. They use blending modes, so changing from Difference to Soft Light changes the character significantly. Worth experimenting with on fast-cut content.
07Brad West's Glint effect
Adds a lens flare / glint effect that looks natural rather than stock. Works well as a subtle finishing touch on highlight-heavy shots or on-camera talent with glasses or jewellery.
08LenoFX 7 Picture-in-Picture Free
Seven picture-in-picture presets for reaction videos, tutorials, or any content with an inset. Pre-built layouts that would take significant time to build manually. Fully customisable once applied.
09Brad West's Free Whip Pan Transitions
Clean whip pan transitions, one of the most-used transitions in modern content creation. These look better than the stock alternatives in most plugin packs.
10LenoFX 10 Simple Titles
Animated titles with a clean, modern aesthetic: text with a crossing line that shifts the colour and adds chromatic aberration as it passes. Simple, flexible, and far more polished than FCP's default titles. On-screen controls for easy positioning.
