Welcome to Final Cut Fridays, where I give you a quick tip in about 60 seconds. Here's a common one: your talent's voice and your music are fighting each other. You want the voice to be heard, but you still want the music to play a role. Here's a fast way to make them get along.
Let the analyzer show you the clash
Drag Channel EQ from your effects onto both your talent's audio and your music. Open the editor on both, and press the Analyzer button on each. Now play out your talent's voice and watch the waveform, where is it mostly rising? Those are the frequencies your voice lives in.
Carve that space out of the music
Head over to your music's Channel EQ and lower those same areas that were highest in your voice. You can use any of the four frequency bells, I usually only bring down about two lumps, and you can drag to adjust how wide each frequency range is. That's it. Now your voice sits cleanly on top and mixes way, way better with the music.
